What's Old is New Again

      Welcome to my blog!
For many years friends, family, colleagues, peers, fellow parents and even exes have suggested that I write my own blog. I have often been told I always have good information to share, offer great insights and that I’m such a wealth of knowledge, always with something of value to contribute.
I have given thought to blogging on several occasions,  however I never did anything about it mainly because I didn’t know how to go about it. Plus, I didn’t know if I would have enough to write about.
As far back as 12 years ago I met someone who coined the expression when they wanted to know something to “Just Ask Davina” and suggested I seriously consider creating a website.  I laughed it off. Then the idea kept bouncing around in my head, again and again. Still I did nothing about it.
Last week while on a phone call with a close friend when I confided that I am finally starting my Blog her response was “finally, Just Ask Davina will be born”.
And so here it is.
With too much time on my hands during the days of the pandemic lockdown and after being laid off from work, I’d been kicking around the idea of getting this blog up and running. Of course, I didn’t want to make it about anything covid-19. When I thought about what type of themes I’d discuss I wasn’t even sure, and I am still uncertain -except I do know  that it will be mine. I am not sure what path this blog will take, but it will definitely include my observations as a woman, as a mother of “adult teenagers”, as a Generation X 50-something individual.  I may even do some reviews. I am also open to your ideas of what you would like me to discuss.
When I told my kids that I’m doing this, I was so pleasantly surprised. They were actually really excited and encouraged  me. I told them I may mention them in the blog now and then but I promised I would never make them a topic of discussion; they both seemed okay with that.
So now this old idea, which a former colleague encouraged me to do so many years ago, has become a new idea.
My new idea.
Having said that, there are so many old concepts, designs, games or fashions that have been reborn. For instance, when I was a 20-something in the 90’s the big summer craze was tie dying our T-shirts with food colouring either at camp or in our backyard and I can even visualize the items drying on our clothesline. Tie dye came in countless varieties in the 90’s. That was the beauty of it-everyone had their own way of playing the colour game.
Today in 2020, my newsfeed is filled with tie dye fashions from online stores selling pre-made tie dye tops, sweatpants, shorts and socks. Last week my daughter’s online order arrived and out of the package emerged a lovely lilac and white tie dye top. It was cute and I had a flashback to the old days. This concept, which was also a popular fashion in the 1960’s, will certainly make a comeback 30 years from now and be in style again. I will undoubtedly see my grandchildren making old-school tie dye stuff.
Everything old eventually becomes new again-reborn, so to speak.
So there it is-my first blog post in the books!  Wow, I cannot believe I wrote it and finally published it.  I hope that you will click in to the next one very soon.
I want to hear from you! So, the question of the day is:
What hobby, activity or interest has someone in your family taken up or discovered in the past couple of months?
Stay Safe,
Davina
